around (a small part of) the world in a summer

For those of you who don't know, I'm about to leave for a trip that will take me to many places this summer. I'm very fortunate to be going on a trip to do research and linguistic field work this summer in Ghana with a professor and a group of students to do investigation and study African linguistic influences in the Caribbean. I leave in about three weeks and couldn't be more thrilled! Not only will I be in Ghana, but I'll be traveling to Morocco for the first time, and then spending some time in Spain visiting friends. I'll be gone from May to July, and then will either be around the United States (potentially on both the East Coast and in California) before heading back home to la Isla del Encanto.

My Visa arrived today and I'm ready to go!

Here's a map of where I'll potentially be this summer:

The itinerary is a bit complicated. To get to Accra, Ghana, we'll be going from San Juan, PR > NYC > London > Accra Ghana. To get to Morocco, Accra, Ghana > Lisbon, Portugal > Madrid, Spain > Tangier, Morocco. And finally, Madrid > NYC, and then whatever I end up doing before heading back to San Juan.

I'm extremely excited and a little anxious about traveling to a whole new part of the world. Additionally, it will be the longest time I'll be "backpacking it". Living abroad is a lot different than RTW ('round the world) travel. Packing becomes even more complicated, and moving from place to place for almost two months straight, not to mention how different all of the places I'll be are, is something that must be taken into consideration. I can't wait to have all new experiences to share!
